Are Birds Critters?

I have a question for my American friends: are birds "critters"?  My apartment association has distributed a strict edict.  We may not feed "the squirrels and other critters".

I has always assumed critters were things with fur, not feathers, but I do not want to attract the wrath of they who must be obeyed....

  1. While bird can be an equal nuisance as "critters" they are not at all close to being like squirrels, chipmunks and others in their family! :)

  2. Nope. I agree with you that critters were animals with furs,so it's definitely not birds :)

  3. "critter" is a slang term derived from "creature," and that means any animal can be one. I think a bird is a creature. Obviously a word whose usage is subjective
